Hello all, ordered these from RFI Tropical I found your site and saw that some have had bad experiences ordering from them. They are all 3-4 in and seem to be in good health. I was wondering if someone could help identify what types they are? Also I have 125g tank, I'm doing two 30g changes each week. I feed them twice a day. Amonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrates 20 or less, ph 7.2, am I on the right track for them to grow out and color up nicely or do I need to make changes to what I'm doing. Any input would be great.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Ok I guess I cant post pictures?? or maybe I just can't figure out how to do it.....

Mark,

First, let me say Welcome to Simply.

Second, your inability to post pics is tied to your post count. The magic number is 10. After that, you shouldn't have a problem posting them.

With regards to your other qquestions, I'll let some of the more experienced members answer.

I look forward to seeing your new youngsters.

Merry

Welcome to Simply. How many fish do you have in the 125? I do not believe that once a week water changes on grow outs is really enough if you want them to reach their full potential. IMO I however am not a pro at growing out discus so lets have someone else chime in. Keep posting.

Don't take this wrong but you got low quality stunted discus. Some sort of PB's and maybe cobalts. Hard to tell. Not ragging on you becuase you had no way of knowing but those are low grade cheap imports. I hope they grow into great fish but I highly doubt it.

Good luck.

Welcome to Simply! I'm sort of a newbie too, but have been reading/learning from this great forum for a couple of months now, and I am raising 6 juvies, (they were between 1 1/2 and 2 inches when I got them) according to the advice given by the experienced long timers on this forum. This is what I do; I change 50-75% of the tank water TWICE a day, about 12 hours apart. I use aged, 86 degree, Prime treated water, and I feed 4-6 times a day. According to the guys/gals here the secret to raising discus is lots of clean water and lots of feeding. I've followed their advice, and it works. Because of ignorance on my part, I got my fish from a not so great source and battled all sorts of problems (parasites) the first 2-3 weeks I had them. But now I've had them about 6 1/2 weeks and 4 of the six have nearly doubled in size, and the other 2 have grown 1/2-1 inches each. Follow what you learn on this site and you won't be sorry.;) Good Luck!
