I have a 12g long Mr. Aqua Tank that is a cool dimension (36"x8.5"x9.5"). Right now it has CRS and CBS and Taiwan Bee shrimp in it along with 6 zebra otos and a Half Moon Plakat betta. There is also a thriving colony of blackworms in there that the betta quite enjoys. I'm getting quite bored with the shrimp and want to put some more fish in it even if the shrimp get eaten. So does anyone have some ideas for something different? The betta can be moved to another tank if needed. I would like to have a couple mini monsters in there like some small cichlids but I'm not sure what would be a good fit. Rams would be neat but I was seeing if there are anything else more unusual out there.

I honestly wouldn't do cichlids in a tank less than 20 long. Have you thought about some Scarlet Badis (Dario dario)?

I hadn't considered them but they seem like a good fit. Now to find them from a reputable source

Sorry, seen you had shrimp, keep them, just get a rare variety.

bored with shrimps? Send them to me :).

Do you have plants in that tank? are you planning to keep the plants? I have kept cherry barb in a very small tank with plants and they look great.

The tank has mosses, guppy grass and floaters. I'm thinking of doing betta macrostoma in the tank

A shoal of Celestial Pearl Danios would be my suggestion. They're very pretty, colorful little fish that love showing off for each other. They're also undemanding in their care.

Just to mix things up a little what about a little nano reef.

That did cross my mind but don't think the wife wants to see me take on a new obsession LOL! Keep the ideas coming though

Yeah I don't have much leverage left. There are worms in the fridge and worms in the closet and whatnot. Still deciding on what to do with the tank. The discus love crs and CBS LOL, the worlds most expensive fish food.

Chili rasboras wouldn't bother the shrimp.

I don't know much about killifish or endlers. The possibilities seem endless, I like it. Here are some bad cell phone pics as I lay here contemplating what to do with the tank.

Some killifish you have to pull the eggs for a drying period but you do not on those that I showed you.

Lots of good ideas. I like the killifish idea, too. I have a few different types right now. I find them very easy to keep, but you would definitely need to put a cover on that tank. BTW, mine love those whiteworms.

Yes I think I'm going to do some killifish. The tank has a top but it gets too hot in summer and the expensive shrimp die. Its a trade off though as I find a few dried up shrimp back there now and again
