A well matched pair but think they are the same gender.

The more I see of wilds, Pat....especially yours.... the more I'm becoming quite convinced they are not only beautifully colored, but also have nicer overall round 'shapes' than the majority of domestic farm-breds.

Well Paul, remember that I am developing a better eye. As to whether wilds are better...that is left for each person to decide. ;)

You know, Pat - I hadn't thought of that. But yes, your developing a better eye for discus shape & form may well have something to do with it !!!
As for wilds being better..... well, anyone who doesn't (even if it's just at times) feel that wilds are more 'exciting' looking....had better take a closer look, imho - LOL

Love the trombetas! Getting a female and male from mark this coming wednesday. Hopefully they look as good as yours!

You picking them up or having them shipped? Mark has nice fish.

I live in Dallas (close to rfish/ryan on here) so picking them up will not be an option haha. Mark is supposed to ship them out tues for wed delivery). The two can be a potential pair according to him since they've been hanging out a lot together. Male is a semi royal and female is a solid color. I'm crossing my fingers they will pair up!

Best of luck with them. Breeding wilds is a whole new experience and well worth it if you can convince the female to breed for you.

Have you measured yours with a ruler? or eyeball guess? I know mine is at least six he is at least as big is a heckel cross which is in the same tank. I did measure the heckel cross with a ruler.

I need to measure him. Mark quoted me 6.5-7". Since my tank is a 24 x 24" cube I can tell he's at least 6" since he certainly look at least 1/4 tank length. And he is definitely a bit bigger than my red turq which I measured at 5.75". I would say he's somewhere 6-6.5" ish range. The female on the other hand is pretty much the same size as the turq so I would say 5.5-5.75" range for her. You think she would grow more?

Winn, I think it would depend on her age; perhaps a good question for Mark. :)

Thanks Pat. I'll check but from my experience most wild discus I had at adult size don't really grow much past the 6-6.6" mark, maybe I should get some juvies one of these days and grow them out... :)

Winn, except of the one Trombeda non of my wilds are over six inches. I once thought one of my male Tefe's was over seven inches. After I received a nice heckel cross from Kraig which I thought was a huge fish, measured it with a ruler and it was a six inch fish. This made me realized how far off I was in my eyeball guesses. Do you measure your fish with a ruler. If you have not, try it. It could be an eye opening experience. :)

Will definitely do pat :) I measured the tefe I got from John (snookn21) and the biggest one was right below 6.5", but I got some xlg tefe from him that was right at 5.5" and they don't really grow over the 2 years I had them. I didn't really know whether it was me or the fish at that point but now I don't feel so bad haha :D

Moved these two to a RO/tap mix. Bet they will color up some.
