HMA filter flow rate

Anyone got any advice on the optimal flow rate for a 3 stage HMA?
So far I've been recommended 1 litre per minute, 2 lpm, 4 lpm, 6 lpm and unrestricted.

Why restrict at all? What is the thinking / science behind it?

Contact time may be the reasoning behind it. What would be the cartridges in the three stages? I would use Sediments -GAC - CTO in this order. Find out by yourself, use a chlorine test to see what is your maximun flow rate.

It's the chloramines rather than chlorine that I'm worried about, and I don't know how to test for that

Look for ammonia in your tap water. Chloramines are a bind of ammonia and chlorine, any test for ammonia should work.
