After a months period and a battle against pesky gill flukes my pair finally gets into the mood to start spawning again.
Hoping for a spawn in the next few days. Lets see how this turns out.....

question regarding gill flukes.
did yours scratch their gills against surface?
what did u use to tx it?

i got fish that looks healthy externally but breaths slightly hard and one side gill opens more than other.
kenny thought it could be early stages of gill flukes.
havent seen any scratching. but they hide in back and eats on and off(more off tho).

Mine scratched against the pot and filter and closed gills..... used prazipro with a combination of quickcure. At one point I got so fed up with the damn things i used a combo of prazipro and Tetras parasite guard....

Well this is frustrating, came back and saw my pair flashing...... Guess they got reinfected with the gill flukes. Anyone know if gill flukes will affect the pair breeding wise? Will the flukes affect the male's fertilization?
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Filling out the disease Questionnaire would help identifying the issue..

--How often is ur WC? bb or planted tank setup? ammonia/nitrite/nitrate? aged water or straight tap or RO?

Do you want me to post the disease Questionnaire on this thread?
WC every 3 to 4 days bb aged water but when i see they are about to lay i change 60% to RO water from the store.

Turning dark, Flashing

3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.
prazipro - 1 teaspoon per 20 gal for 21 days. --- Improved for 3-4 days and symptoms came back.
Quick cure a drop a gallon for a week ------- NO improvement.
General Cure 1 packet for every 10 gallons 1 treatment for 3 days no improvement.
Parasite Guard 1 tablet for every 10 gallons for 3 days ----- NO improvement.

4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.
25 gallon running for about 3 months. 2 fish age unknown.

5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).
WC every 3-4 days age tap. Using RO on the day of breeding at 60%.

6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?
BB running for about 3 months.

7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.
Aged for 24 hours. Strangely no Ph swing

8. Parameters and water source;

Note: Water Parameters are important in diagnosing problems within a tank. If you don't own test kits for the following information, you can purchase them, test your parameters and post this info as soon as possible.

- temp ___82__

- ph __7.5___

- ammonia reading __0__

- nitrite reading __0__

- nitrate reading __2__

What type of water or combinations of water sources do you use? If it is an RO/tap/well water mix, please list percentages in the mix.

- well water __100__

- municipal water ____

- RO water __60% mix with age tap when eggs are about to be laid__

NO this is what has been bugging me how did the fish get flukes or what ever it is without adding anything.....

One thing I must say you are very lucky to have the fish alive after those treatments. If I was you, I'd clean up the tank, equipment and do daily wc to give them time to recover.

Hello Brotoss, i have faced some gill related infections in the past which made me to show interest in this thread.. You water parameters looks ok to me. And i agree with PP_GBR, it probably got re-infected from some of ur equipment. Clean it one more time and as of now just do 100% or more daily WC. Most of the cases simple frequent more WC is the key for fish health.

Any other new fish got introduced into any of ur other tanks recently?

Two weeks ago I replaced 100% of the water and gave a salt bath to them. I boiled my sponge and all the equipment. I poured hot water (140F) into the tank and wiped it down making sure nothing couldn't live. Fish looked fine after that but a few days later symptoms started to show again.

I've considered that but pp might be too strong to use and i don't know where to get some....

Could you take a close-up pix of the gill? Maybe someone will chime in. Keep doing your daily water change in the meantime.

Update: Pair laid a HUGE spawn today. Caught me off guard and wasn't able to use RO on this spawn neither a water change....
Does anyone know if the eggs will be able to hatch in these parameters? And what should I do now do a water change or wait until tomorrow?
This is sad to say but the pair i believe has gill flukes still.........

Update: Good news is that 90% of the eggs were fertile. Bad news is that most of the eggs remained dark for some reason and most of them turned white after 48 hours. Anyone knows why that happened?

Update: Spawned once again a few days ago but on the glass. Most of the eggs turned white after 36 hours for some reason.

What is the TDS I should be aiming for? (my hardness is 8 and ph is 7.5)

Second Hand Pat

TDS of 80 to 100 and GH of about 70 or 4 oGH
