I've always liked unique fish. Here's my new buddy.

Awesome fish what do you feed him? He has a very big mouth!

So far red wrigglers and chunks of shrimp. He shows no interest in snails. I'll try a variety of food to keep him happy.

I love to see unusual critters in the fresh water arena.
How big is he?

He's 4 1/2", so almost full grown. I've got him set up with lots of lurking areas and a nice cave. It's neat how he's always watching and paying attention to what's going on outside the tank.

That is just down right awesome! Does he attack the pieces of shrimp, kinda leap out of his dank little cave and gobble up the shrimp? What is his normal pH?

He does attack the pieces of shrimp and rip them to shreds. I didn't see him eat the red wrigglers, just saw the left over pieces when he was done. Their normal ph range is 6.5 to 7.5. Mine is right around that upper number, I believe they are fairly tolerant. I just need to keep his messes cleaned up. He actually stays out a lot--alternately swimming around and lurking.

I have a LFS in NH that does a good job of getting in a pretty good variety of fish. I was there picking up a pair of pelvicachromis taeniatus moliwe that they ordered for me and there he was.

Awesome. If you dont mind me asking whatd you pay for him? My lfs can order usually anything you want even discus but they dont keep them in stock. He said hed order me some varieties for 20 each about quarter size. Thought I might ask him if he could get one.

Yes this would do well in a small single tank, expensive?

Mine is in his own 30 gallon tank right now. Yes, I consider it a fairly expensive fish. They aren't that easy to come by. I paid $72 for him.
