Since my tap water has gone crazy with the lakes turning over, (was Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrates 0 and is now ammonia 0.25, nitrite1.0, nitrates 0) this has created an elevated nitrate level in my tanks (125g normally 10-20 is now 20-40 and my 55g normally 5-10 is 10-20) I do 2 50% water changes a wek on the 125 display tank and daily 60% on the 55g grow out. If I was to tee off my water line in the garage that feeds the water heater and install a filtration system would that fix the problem by removing the ammonia and nitrite? If so what type of system would you guys suggest?

R / O system will always give you 0-0-0 ph around 6. You can adjust from there to get your storage container to the right ph, or just slowly adjust what your fish live in to match the r/o.
I use 100% r/0. I remineralize with discus essentials, and ph stable (kh+) both from kent. I always add the same amount of each so my parameters stay the same. Pretty easy actually.

Yeah I know an R/O sysyem would do that I was just wondering is your standard type 2 or 3 stage filtration would remove the nitrite and ammonia, I'm not trying to breed anything at this point so I really dont have a need for R/O. I know the remove chlorine just didn't know about the other.
