It's a 1.2x40x50 with 10mm reinforced glass. Top and bottom bracing.

Why do you mount your heaters so High up on the tank?

Don't they get exposed during water changes?

I mount the 300W high up and horizontally to avoid fish bumping into it and to allow maximum heat spread through the tank. When Im about to do a WC I switch off and either remove or push holding suckers lower. However my WC regimen is 20% everyday and then a 50-60% weekly. When doing a 20% it's not so high up that the water level drops below it.

Firstly.....it looks great, as do your others.......Question....is the top of the tank a good place for the heater, considering that heat rises????

Firstly.....it looks great, as do your others.......Question....is the top of the tank a good place for the heater, considering that heat rises????

Good question. I have set up my flow to run over the surface of the heater which effectively gives the heat horizontal movement thus spreading heat evenly throughout the tank. This doesn't allow much heat to escape and my temp never fluctuates from 28.5-29 degrees Celcius.

Lets give them a bit. They are tiny still

Which begs the question of how can anyone rate a fish AAA when it is that size?

yim11
10-09-2013, 12:28 PM
That grading should be applied to the actual fish received, not based on their potential down the road. I agree with Bill, but perhaps the AAA grading there is different than in the US.

They were bred from AAA parents and hand selected by breeder. Lets see as they develop

AAA parents will not produce 100% AAA babies. Hand selected means he put his hand in the tank and catch each one out ?. For next purchase I recommend you should buy from sponsor in here. They might not bred from AAA quality parent but they are sure much better quality than those you just bought from AAA parents.

Do sponsors here export to South Africa? I've requested info from Chicago Discus weeks ago when they responded to a pm but not a squeak from them after my mail enquiry. I was ready to place a large order but no one has bothered getting back to me. Been chatting with Kenny who is really friendly and helpful with great feedback but he unfortunately does not have an export license.

Here's the last message from Josie from Chicago Discus:

"We have wholesale pricing available for exporting and we shipped overseas you need to send a request to the email chicagodiscus@att.net and Miranda will send you out a package"

I mailed her thrice and sent various messages but got not a single reply back.
I'm pretty disappointed in this so I sourced my own Asian breeder

Sorry,
Ok let me break it down I have been in contact with my Broker about shipping to South Africa and have been waiting for his reply but as you might not know there has been a government shut down here in the States. With the Government shut down it have been very difficult (not impossible) to import and export livestock. I apologize for not getting back to you privately in emails or
by telephone but you are a wholesale customer which is not the same as a retail customer and not to be confused. So as our Customer service has been not the greatest with you wholesale and retail are two different animals.
Im very happy you found a supplier for your discus in Asia and wish you all the best.

Regards
Josie

I was fully aware of the US government shutdown as I have business interests in the States as well. I would have appreciated a mail explaining the delay though. Once you are ready to resume negotiations please let me know via mail. In the interim I am also in talks with Forrest to get some stock in.

Thank you for your response

Forgive me for being stupid, but what is a wholesale customer verses a retail customer? Does this mean that M you are buying for resale or are we talking quantity discount verses one or two fish? Given your location, Pat is correct you might be happier and it may be easier to go through Forest directly.

A retail customer is someone who buys a few fish at a time from a LFS or from a breeder and this has retail prices attached. A wholesale customer buys in qty ie a volume customer. I buy wholesale ie in qty and therefore lower prices. If I place an order with Forrest as an example I will order roughly 180 fish as a minimum box lot.

Hope this explains the difference

One picture is my avatar. Ill add some more though. Theres one pigeon one im thinking is either a stunted pigeon that didnt get spots or like a tangerine or marlboro it just stayed orange and not as big as the rest. Three are blue diamonds. The 6th I lost due to a deformity but it had a yellowish body with stress bars and the fins were turning red and blue marks. Very pretty it didnt live long enough to get its full colors. They hadnt gotten their colors yet in these pics. Theyre not with us theyre at a friends house that kindly offered to take them when we had to move and couldnt take them.

Ive got a spare cycled 90cm tank that I think I will experiment on. A nice substrate, some moss, ferns, rock and wood and then maybe drop in a few tetras etc to see how it looks. Can't wait to try it. Hope your fish are doing well. I'm starting another tank with some wild green tefes soon. I'm pretty tired of these "christmasy colored" discus. I really like the wilds.
