While pure aquarium balls are an excellent product for maintaing your tank parameters and keeping the tank crystal clear it is not designed to completely cycle a tank. I have suggested to some people that using a product called Fritz Zyme 7 will work in cycling a tank. The reason I like this product is because I have had good success in establishing some tanks with little to no effort. For best results use the Fritz 7 and aquarium balls at the same time. Keep the Fritz in the refrigerator and once you open the bottle you will start loosing the bacteria so I would suggest getting smaller bottles and use them and just discard the bottle...Josie
