I have a 125 that I have had for years and decided to get Discus. I saw online that if you have a good refugium that it helps with nitrates but so far I still am doing water changes every other day! How full of plants do you have to have your tank before it really makes a difference?

Hi I'm by far not any pro on discus but I can share my experience. I too seen the "wet Pets" video on you tube . After seeing it I went and jumped in with both feet in making my own refugium. This by far was a huge mistake. Yes plants take some nitrates out but water changes cannot be replaced by the refug. It may work different for others but in my case it was a waste of money. So what I did was made the refug. into a big filter with bio balls and other filter media and only have the plants in the tank. Hope this was of some help.
