I already feel like I made to many post, and for that I'm sorry I don't mean to clutter up this forum. I'm learning as I go and was not prepared for some things that came up.

My blue pigeon fry went free swimming yesterday, for the most part they were attached to the parents.. As the day went by more and more fry are clinging on to the bottom of the tank where the silicone is located.

As of now, only 10 or so fry have succesfully attached while the other 20+ are swimming around the sillicone..

Now I used MB and the silicone did get a dark blue tint and I believe that may be the cause for the fry to be attracted to that instead of the parents.

Any suggestions on what I could do? The parents pay more attention to the attached fry than the scramblers.

Drop the water level just above the parents dorsal fin.

Thanks Nick! I already have my BBS eggs and setting up a small hatchery for them.

Now for the water level drop, I have a question.

I have the tank @ 50% now, should I fill it to 100% and drop down to fin level? I'm thinking that way i can cycle out old water, and try really hard not to suck out any fry ;(

i personally will not drop the water level on my tank unless however if the fry are not attacching that is when i drop the water level after a day or two and all the fry have attached to the pair i will slowly begin to fill the tank back up to the regular water level. hopr that helps.

agree with Nick. as far as wc, you can use net or something that you can screen 1 end of the tube, then siphon water out. that's how i do it without sucking fry out.

On an average, how long does it take for fry to make full attachment, in other words. How long do they have to attach until they die off?

Most of them may last no more than 2 days.

More fry are lost by messing around with water level etc then are saved. I would just leave them be and continue with your normal routine.

Do you think I should do something different since they're pigeon based? I'll do one water change today and leave it as is for now.

I replied on your other thread, cover the top 3/4 or more with carton or something that blocks the light opposite side of the heater. this will help fry to the light side.

I must of not seen that, I appreicate that I'll definitly give that a shot when I get home from work.

What time frame do youguys give your discus to attach to parents? after how many days of free swimming do you give up?

It depends on the pair. if they do not attach after 2 days then i will try to shake them off of what ever they are attached to. some times discus like checker board pigions or blue pigeon and just albinos in geneeral are harder to breed because the fish are white and do not always create as much "discus milk" so the fry are not alway as atracted to them.

What age are you guys doing your 100% water changes? I've been doing 30-50% daily, not sure if it's helping because I always see 1-2 dead fry every morning.

you did well and got a good hatch rate for useing tap water, as far as water changes go i will only do 50 to 60% water changes untill I removed from the pair.
