I started with domestic angelfish...which lead to discus...which lead to wild caught discus. I have not only managed to keep them alive, but I would say they are thriving. Now, I want to try my hands at wild caught angelfish.

In particular, I think I want to try P. altums. My search for them has been fruitless thus far. Does anyone know where I would be able to buy some?

Any other input/info/tips on wild caught angels would also be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Attila

See if the sponsors on SD like discus origins or snook21 have any in stock. You could also check out angelfishusa.net. They were selling wild altum angels and tank raised F1 altums.

Thanks, wild4discus! I contacted John (snookn21) a few days ago, but I haven't heard back yet. I hope it's not because he does not have any altums! I just sent an e-mail to Discus Origins, too.

It looks like AngelfishUSA only has wild caught Santa Isabells right now. I think I should start with some other wilds before I drop that kind of money on them!!

I guess altum collection season is over, so I may just be out of luck :waaa:

The best way I have found to see what John has available is to check his aquabid listings. He currently has two listings for wild angelfish.

Thanks for the help! I have contacted each of the potential sources you guys recommended.
John right now only has an auction for "Santarem altums," which I believe are actually P. scalare. The more I research, the more confusing it gets. Apparently, some wild caught Pterophyllum scalare from certain locations are called altums (incorrectly so, I would think).

The one seller who did get back to me that he had some available was Dominic from Houston Aquarium Warehouse. I did some research on them, and it looks like they used to be a sponsor on here years ago maybe?? Are they reputable?

for wild angels and good pricing john (snookn21) is the way to go. u gotta look on his website to see his current stock. aquabid is just some of the fish john list. here is his website with current list as of dec 10. http://www.freshwatertropicalfishonline.com/Instock%20Retail.pdf he has altums and other wild angels. if he doesnt email u back. try calling him, or email him again. other places are just overpriced or charge a lot more on shipping.
