Congrats.

On the filter I would have never taken it out or lowered the water level. Those tricks are normally not needed for non-PG strains.

John would tell you to start on day 1. I've had to start as late as day 10 because of travels and haven't found the starting day makes a lot of difference to the fry. It's probably easier on the parents if you start earlier rather than later however. I try to start around day 4.

I usually leave mine on until the parents look like they need a break or the fry start loosing interest in the bbs. That could be as early as 2 weeks but for likely somewhere between 3 and 5. Not a rule, just what I do.

While most discus fry can eat fresh hatched BBS on day 1 I normally only do that when raising them artificially. When they are with the parents I normally start somewhere between day 5 and 10.

babies swarming the cone

Christian74

is it normal for the babies to be staying on the cone and not as much on the parents? well they only really attach to the male leopard but most are on the cone?

I have seen it before. Is one of the parents a PB? Looked like it in the last picture. Babies are attracted to dark objects, most PB's don't really turn dark. And as my normal response I never suggest mixing a PB with a non PB.

good luck.

My guess, wait for another 24hrs, most fry's will try to attach eventually..

And i had some luck with blue led lights which makes the parents look darker during attachment.

Why don't you remove the cone? it will help the fry stay on parents

One "trick" you can try is projecting a spotlight type lamp into the front of the tank as your light source. It makes the backside of parents appear as dark spots where they are blocking the light. I personally haven't used this method, but it came from a good source. HTH

+1 on removing the cone

well the first pair are back on the parents the other pair of just PB are on the cone so i pulled it if they dont attach to the parents soon you think i should net them into the other tank even tho they are a lil smaller than the other babies. maybe they will think its there own parents?

Perhaps, or maybe the foster parents will defend their fry by eating all the intruders. Impossible to say. Often times the less messing around you do the better in the long run.

i took one out of the other tank and put it with the pair with attached babies and they are treating the one as there own
