Was wondering if someone could help. I have 6 breeding pairs and everytime they spawn a quarter of the eggs turn white 24hrs then the next day half the next all. There are confirmed pairs also. What could be causing this? I have a ro unit it it necessary to use ro water?

Why don't you try it?
If I were you I will try this ... Set up another tank with RO water ... take all eggs after laid 2 hours from 6 pairs put in tank with RO water to see how they turn out, If you don't want to do RO for all 6 tanks ... Good luck!

Would you use straight ro? With mineral ?

If you take the egg out, you can use straight RO, this is just a test to see how eggs turn out ...

You mean your PH is 7.3?
Don't care about my PH, what's your water hardness?

Sometimes the male does not remember what he ate in the morning. LOL. Even he is a proven male, there is no warranty he touched the eggs every time. LOL.

So what should I do with my hard water? Will my ro unit help? I have the capability to do 150gpd which enough for all of my tanks. Or do i need to experament to get a perfect ro tap mix for hardness?

what i do is use aged tap and ro water mix for my breeding pairs, the ro system will make your water shofter. i would not recomend useing pure ro it can fluctuate to easy. hope that helps.

An RO unit will produce water with a TDS in the single digits. You'll need to remineralize it with a product like ROright to get your TDS to around 80 or so for optimum fertilization conditions.

Roys, aim for a RO, tap mix of about GH 70 ppm vs the 125 you have now.

I've had a similar situation going on for a couple months now with one of my proven pairs. They've spawned three or four times in that period, but the eggs show no sign of developing (slight darkening inside that I've been able to see sometimes) and after a couple days they slowly start turning white or just disintegrate, until they're eaten. This happened again just this past week. I watched the female lay the eggs, but I only ever saw half-hearted passes by the male. I'm wondering if he wasn't aroused enough or something like that. I think my water is fine, RO/well mix, GH between 70-80ppm. Works fine in my other tanks. Any ideas?

Hi pat . So this is what ive done using my ro. With a 75/25 mix I got tds of 135 gh of 70 and ph has stayed at 7.3. Should I age this mix and take readings after 24hrs ? Also will I have to acclaim my breeding pairs to it? And do you think id have to add minerals to the mix? Any help would be appreciated so tired of seeing white eggs. Gotta keep the excitement up in this hobby.

Roy, I would age and then compare the ph and Tds to the tank water. If they are pretty close I would wc as you normally do. Otherwise change about a third of the water until ph and Tds are equal.
