So I have read the round vs. jumbo threads and figure I'd post my roundest fish along side my jumbos. The round cobalts are about 6+" where the jumbo leopards are 7+". It does not sound like a big difference but you can tell right away which are the jumbos. The jumbos don't have the best shape though. Which are preferred? I wish I had jumbo super rounds but not this time around.

just by looking at the head and mouth you can easily tell which is round and which is jumbo. the pointy shape prolly adds an extra inch on the jumbo's.i prefer round discus. its the key feature for me in a discus. and by the size and roundness you can determine the quality of the fish. i would assume judges would look at the shape of the discus before anything else? might be wrong tho. i think thats why huge discus that are super round cost several hundreds. i drool when kenny brought in those HUGE red and round discus last couple of years by hai koon i believe.

The jumbos are significantly bigger in every dimension not just length but yeah the way the head bumps out adds to the length. I see that shape a lot in large discus. My large stendkers had the same shape too.

Don, round is nice but Jumbo is good too 'cause not many able to reach 7.5". i like both because each has its own beauty.

I like them both but wish I could grow out some nice super round jumbos. Maybe one of these days I'll splurge if some nice ones are imported.

I am a total Newbie when it comes to Discus so i couldnt comment on which ones are show winners. But if your fish were for sale, and i could only choose two, i would buy the front cobalt in pic 2 and the leopard in pic 7. They are the most beautiful to me with the shape i like best.

the problem is the nice ones are expensive and hard to find a perfect mate or not imported to U.S. i think, best is buy a whole group and grow them out. Just like my Piwow Turqs, there is only 1 reach 7.5"+ and the rest still between 6"+ to 7".

Even the jumbos still look round to me. Yes, they develop the strong forehead, but that happens in angelfish and other cichlids, too. I like the strong forehead as long as it's not crazy huge like a flowerhorn.

I'd be proud to own any of the fish in these pictures. Healthy, round, well-conditioned fish.

Amazing fish... I love this one... Are your Cobalt Piwow? Love the thickness of your fish. What do you feed these bad boys? Anyway, this pictures makes me miss my jumbo Piwow Cobalt.

Those are from mmorris when her cobalts used to breed LOL. Got them at 2". They mainly eat Al's FDBW and Bill's Super Beefheart Flake. Thanks!

I'm fairly new at this too, but I agree that #2 and #7 are the nicest shaped fish to me...having said that, it's like choosing between a Porsche and a Ferrari - they're all beautiful fish.
