South American Discus Community Update

Ok, I upgraded my filteration system significantly. I replaced three Eheim 2215s with a 2nd Fluval Fx6 and I replaced my 2 CoralLife 9W UV Sterilzers with one 36W CoralLife UV Sterilzer.

Ha, I knew it. The 2 FX6's had me take a stab at it. Although I would think that 2 FX6's, a eheim and the powerheads would make too much current on the tank. Also I really don't see a need for all that filtration. One FX6 should be suffice. Question, Did you the filtration based on a decision you made or was it recommend at a LFS???????????????

I agree on the over filtration but it's something I like. I do a 50% WC twice a week. I had 4 Eheims and Fx6 running before.

I have a lot of interesting combinations happening inside filters. Lots of bio filtration. UV sterilization. Mechanical and chemical.

I am using low flow pieerheads. Hydor mid an bottom levels and I'm disturbing the surface with One Fx6 and Eheim UV system. The other Fx6 is moving mid level but break fliw in driftwood.

No dead zones at any level. Crystal clear and as hard as it may be hard to believe but I have flow controled for a Discus environment

No LFS influence just my own hobbyist decisions. We all spend money on this for different reasons. I enjoy crystal clear water. Owe and I live UV. Lots of opinions but I chose 36W turbo twist. I use gravity from the system to relieve pressure on my 2217 from distance and I polish water inside intake tubes to minimize debris.

I'll send my system design diagrams later this weekend. The project took 17 strait hours one day over holidays.

Some of my Discus are new to the tank. Over 5.5 inches. They paired up and spawned within a couple of days in the tank.

The golden sunrise is 5.5 inches. I got all if my Discus from Houston Aquarium Warehouse. They are the largest local distributor for a good variety. John heads up the LFS and he is purchasing mostly from Asian sources. He also sales a variety of other species including wild caught hatchets and Rummies.
