Bayouboy, how is the pigeon blood doing by himself? pictures?

It is recommended for social reasons that discus be kept in groups of no less than 6. A single discus will likely be skittish and unhappy. When they're unhappy and stressed they can quickly succumb to disease or parasites.

The problem I see here is that when they get bigger, you will need a much bigger tank for them. Preferably a 75 gal tank.

I will upgrade once I get a house I have a one bedroom apartment and four tanks so maxed out that's why I'm only doing 4 and that's all I'm going to keep in there it's a start I'm on a small budget so this is the best I can do

Looks nice. Looking at the pic that's not a blue snakeskin. Blue snakeskin has 14 stress bars and that looks like it has 9. Non the less nice little beginner set up. Make sure you keep up on that water change, so they have a chance to grow out

I'm surprised no one chimed in about growing out those young discus in a bigger bare bottomed tank, like they did when I asked about my 50 gallon :P Why is it ok for him to keep 4 discus in here while I should only keep 3 in a larger tank?

Looks great! I'm about to start with discus as well, best of luck to you :)

sholvey i would have to disagree with the whole 14 bars i did reserch last night and a couple buddies have the same snakeskin and have 9 bars also and also if u google the fish and check out all the bars on the pics of juvies u will also learn that they also have 9 bars so with this im saying maybe u might be wrong with that statement non the less thanks for the input but i believe its a blue snakeskin

Hi Bayouboy, first off let me welcome you to Simply and it appears you are new to discus. You are making some newbie mistakes you may want to be aware of and I invite you to do more research. First off is raising juvies in a planted tank with substrate; it is very hard to keep a tank like this clean and with high quality water. Juvies need require many feedings a day, large daily water changes, tankwipe downs and filter cleaning. Substrate tend to trap all that junk and ends up fouling the water. Quite often maintaining young discus in a planted tank results in sick and/or stunted discus. Are you going to QT your new additions? If not this is another newbie mistake and another research item.

I would recommend a BB tank, several feeding a day, large daily WCs with tank wipe downs and filter cleaning every couple of days to properly grow out young discus. As mention prior a larger tank once the fish reach 4 or more inches.

Ok I get your point but some of us have jobs u kno that require us to actually be there on site to work I can't find them them three times a day no I'm not going to change my tank and no I'm not really new I been around what u don't realize is my grandpa and my father have raised discus all when I was young yes I'm new doing by myself stupid I'm not I do my daily water changes I'm over filtered I got this ok thanks
