What's the difference between PE and SE?

You can get PE with spotted face as shown below from one of Kenny's shipment

The differnce between the two?

$30.00

Other than that, same fish, different quality.

LOL think we got a lil confusion here. No standard 7 bar fish, probably meant 9 bar, and those are leopards. The Eruptions, any of them, will be 14 bar Snakeskin.

Other than that Rick is correct, about $30 bucks.

Sorry, I meant 9 not 7. Of course $$$ always different and I also notice spot on SE is finer than Penang.

They (SE vs PE) are the same fish. If you were to buy a pair of super eruptions., breed them, you would get ........ gasp ........Penangs. The top 10% of the batch might be what ya'all are referring to as super eruptions. They are not different strains

And to make it even more confusing, the filename for that picture in the first post is "Web Majestic," not Super Eruption. This is why trade names grate on my last nerve.

There you go they are all Penang Eruption just different patterns. You can call them Super Sider Web Eruption and at the end of the day it's still the same PE strain.

Can I get an AMEN!?

(the more syllables in the name, the more money they can ask for the fish)

To me they are all a form of Leopard Snake Skins....just evolved into fancy names. Those I put up above are not mine, they were at the last NADA show. I just took the pics.

I wasn't going to reply to this thread but I can't always keep my mouth closed. I wasn't going to respond because I'm afraid I'm going to put my foot in my mouth but here goes, lol. I can't speak to the genetics of the fish. Rick is certainly more qualified on that side of the discussion but my observation/perception has always been that there are enough differences in a PE and SE/LSS to warrant calling them a different name. I have owned all three and have seen plenty at Shows and in pictures. My observation has always been that a PE has larger, more defined (rounder) spots that are spaced farther apart. The SE/LSS have smaller spots that are not as defined sometimes to the point of being more like blotches than spots and the spots are spaced much closer together. If both PE, SE and LSS are the same strain and can be conceived by the same parents then so be it but I think there are enough differences to warrant the different names. Just my observations.

While I almost agree, when you add to the equation that many breeders are now selling these fish, the lines get really blurred. Ie, a leopard SS from one breeder might be classified as a PE by another, so on and so on. I good pair of PE's is going to throw alot of leopard Ss's so on and so on.

Now if the three varietys were controlled by just one person/breeder, then the distinction would be obvious. In a perfect world a SE>PE>LSS.
But when breeder A's PE are comparable to breeder b's SE, and breeder c's LSS are being called PE's, well you start to see the problem.

Agreed. I also agree Larry that usually they can be distinguished from one another to an extent. I just made mention of calling them all LSS because, to my limited knowledge, that is their origins and the fact that I can't keep up with each breeder's personal touch strain name for each. I don't want to go offending anyone by calling their Super Flower Fireworks Eruption a Super Eruption.
