Found this article published in 2012.

Just thought it was noteworthy but didn't find any mention of it in the search. Also, this is the only research I've found in a science journal and growth of Discus in a controlled environment.

Pirhonen, J., et al, "Growth of domesticated discus Symphysodon sp. at
constant temperatures", Aquaculture Research, 2012

Ideal Temp: 28-29C (82.4 - 84.2F)

The fry were from parents imported from Singapore (undisclosed). The experiment started 14-days post-hatch. The total sample size was 140, or 14 fry per group.

Temperature variance was up to 0.3 degrees.

Food: First 2 weeks fed mucus from parents then after 1 week post-hatch, introduced live Artemia until second week of experiment. Then was fed Artemia and 35% BH mixture. After the 14th day, was fed BH mix exclusively.

Feed rate: 3x a day until satiated (note: subjectivity added here)

BH mix: 35 BH, 30% of green peas, banana, mango, vitamin, gelatin as binder, and 35% white fish. (note: does not mention how it was controlled)

Water: pH of 6.9

Aquarium: ten 17G aquarium

Deaths: 3 died from 27.5C aquarium and 1 died from 32.8C aquarium.

Results: At 28.4C, they have a 8.19% daily growth rate for 38 days (Confidence: 95%, p < 0.01). Growth rate at 33C was about 7.4 and 7.6% @25C

So even if you were to go up to 91.4F (33C) you're still going to have a decent growth rate. However, as indicated from the deaths, you might have a higher mortality rate.

I think the information provided is consistent with what is being told here at SD.

Disclaimer: These aren't my results. I am just providing a brief of the results for your FYI. For a more in-depth read of the article, please check the article out. Also, in the past, people have asked me for copies. Go to your local university library since it's protected by copyright. I've included the information for you to look it up.

I know nothing about the study but have been advocating 82 degrees and feeding 2 to 3 times a day for a long, long time.

How about that, I grow all my discus out at 28.2-28.5C.

Damn Rick its almost like we know what we are doing.......

So to achieve a decent growth rate and avoid deaths, 30 Cº (86 degrees farenheit) would be ideal.

I don't think you're getting the right idea, If you set the temp too high bacteria will multiply faster so death might be unavoidable. The decent growth rate can only achieve through WC not base on temperature alone.
