daily water changes!! Thats a lot of conditioner $$$$

I just use tap water and add conditioner to the water before adding to tank. That could get costly with even 2-3 X week water changes.

Nothing is cheaper then SAFE.Prime is just the liquid form of SAFE.

Or you can spilt a bucket of safe with a friend but don't get pulled over if he gives it to you in a zip lock. You will be explaining for hours its for fish.

I purchased the Seachem 2 liter for around $36. I age my water in several 55 gal barrels and put 1 or 2 cape fuels of prime right before I turn on the pump. So far it should last me 12 months.

you are right, I read the bottle and it has a short life span once added to water.

A few years ago, I emailed the manufacturer on this. What they told me, is that while they don't recomend it, if you mix the safe with RO/DI in this matter, the safe should be good for at least a week. I have actually tested this, and found it to be good for at least a month (the test used was to see if it still neutralized PP).

The thing is, they (the manufacturer) have no idea what dissolved minerals and impurities you might have in your tap, and how they will react to the safe over any extended period of time. If your going to go this route, do yourself a favor and buy a gallon of distilled water to premix with.

Confused about conversation with safe. Chorine evaporates within 24 hours, does a RO unit remove Chorine and heavy minerals? Guess my question is why would you need to add safe to RO/DI water?

I think it was tap water in the original ask. Then it went to using the power form safe to make your own prime (liquid form but still a concentrate) to pour in tank or aging bucket. I guess they think liquid will disperse better. Then it went to what is the shelf life after you mix safe and water to make a concentrate. Most still mix tap with RO so would still need safe. chloramines.:thumbsup:

Buddy,first you should start reading the relevant posts related to it and then have your comment. Chlorine do evaporate if ur aerating for 24hrs but chloramines are pretty strong and they do not evaporate even after aerating for 24hrs, so something like safe is needed. Hope, u got it now :)

ok. ordered safe powder. and a python. going to replace water straight from tap then add the safe powder to the tank. What would the dosing be for a 75 gal then? This may be an irritating question for all you advanced aquarists but It certainly would be helpful to me to know how to use this powder. I don't know how comfortable i am with pre-mixing it in a bottle for use trungnguyen.

Its alright to go over,and in the winter months I do.I have cooking measuring spoons,so for a 75,I use a level teaspoon.

I have only chlorine in my tap and use sodium thiosulfate. One pound treats almost 38,000 gallons. Its much cheaper. Although I do keep some prime/safe on hand in case in need to get rid of ammonia. Although that hasn't happened in years.
