Sagittaria subulata (aka Dwarf sagittaria) and Cryptocoryne parva are what I'm using to create my carpet. Some use dwarf hair grass or baby tears. Do a search here for carpet & you should find more info.

dwarf baby tears (HC) do best in high light conditions. Same with hairgrass. I wish they were low lighters!

I like sag subulata, just be careful with the low lighting if you want to keep them as foreground plants. They will reach for higher light and grow tall in a low light set up.

Dwarf anubias are fab...totally resistant to attempts at killing it...you literally have to stomp on them to kill them.

Another plug for anubias...when you get tired of gravel, you can just unroot and tie them to a driftwood or stone! Instant re-deco!
