If you are interested in breeding what would be a good ratio of adult males to adult females in a 100 gallon tank?

Can I say 50/50 unless they're into the kinky stuff?

Maybe I should clarify.
If I was buying adult discus for a 100 gallon tank with the hope of getting some breeding pairs how many males vs females would you buy?

Mark,

Keith is right, 50/50. I think most would say 2 to 1 male vs female. I just think it's a hit or miss.

Example: I have 12 discus in my 110, all adults, and from what I know about most of them, I have 7 males and 5 females. I do not see any difference in pairing them because the females appear to be the aggressor most of the time (wish that were true in real life, but that's another thread for another time, Lol).

If I understand you correctly, you should get minimum 6 in order to have good chance of a pair. With you 100 gallon tank, you can get up to 10 discus, higher chance for a pair but if you have bad luck like John (he had 11 females), then you need 12. Hehehe

This can actually vary by strain, but I think a rule of thumb is 5 adults to have a more than reasonable chance to get one pair. Thier are things you can do to improve your odds.
