I am FF in Jersey. Had a false alarm Co2 call a few days ago, and took notice to the fish tank in the house. A 75g, well established, filled with mbuna Africans and a beat up angel. I know nothing of angels other than this guy was destroyed. I went back this afternoon and spoke with the resident. They remembered me and I told them I loved the tank. I went on to talk about the angelfish and they didn't notice hoe beat up it was. I asked if I could buy him and take him home and attempt to heal him up. I gave them $5 and off I went with the fish in a 1 gallon Tupperware bucket.

1. What do I need to do to help this lil guy?
2. He's eating with no problems and swims around, not real well I might add.
3. Suggestions please?

quite new into fish keeping but not in observing fish here: i think the most important is the attitude of the fish: if you see it eating that is a great thing. i guess some peace and quiet will allow him to grow his fins back(assuming he got chewed by other fish and not by disease). good luck and good action.

It was certainly being munched by the afrficans. He had an auratus mbuna that was torturing him. He is eating and attempting to be lively. Im just gonna do daily water changes, salt, and feed with my BH mix and see what happens.

I cannot believe they would put the angle in a African tank! I am surprised it's alive and those mbuna's nipped at him quite a bit. They are considered one of the most aggressive African cichlids. The only thing I could suggest is good water changes and feedings. Looks like it lost out on a lot of the feedings too. good luck

You mentioned you have in a one gallon bucket? If so, that would not help at all on getting him back, he needs more space and filtration, at leat a 10 gallons tank just for him, until he gets better, don't add salt as it is not needed, he is not sick just hurt. Daily water changes it's defintly good, rIse he temp a little bit to like 86 degrees and wait for the best. Good luck brother.

I transported him in a one gallon bucket. He's in a 110g right now. Prior to that he was in a 55 for the past two days.

It amazes me what clean water and diet will do for a fish sometimes. Excellent job on bringing him back to good health....................

Thank you. One thing I've learned from this experience is the importance of WC's. I was always an advocate of WC's. However, not 30 a day!. I am now doing them every day or atleast every other day. I've seen the outcome of doing the changes.
