Saw this in a local fish store. it is around 3 inches (young juvenile). There are around 14 stripes on the body. I am not sure what strain is it, and the shop owner can't be sure too.

Can you identify it? I wonder how it looks when grown up?

Do yourself a big favor and do lots of reading here before spending any money on discus. Generally discus bought at a LFS ends up being a source of many problems for a person new to discus from low quality to being a source of disease. You will also find it is best to buy discus in a group ( 6 recommended).

I would guess you are looking at a red snakeskin.

pat.. don't you think that a fish this small already has a HALO?
i was thinking VIRGIN RED type that is stunted..

but $10 is cheap for 3" fish for a reason..

ps.. OP.. don't you already have a tank full of discus.. were you going to QT this fish.. or just add it str8 to your display tank.

Skip, I keep wilds :o but yes, a virgin red seems like a better choice and yes it is stunted.

Thanks for the reply and info. I am thinking of getting another tank (5 or 6 feet) and move all my adult discus to the new tank.

I have to admit...it is addicting in getting more discus...

I would have to agree with a Skip, most likely a virgin red.

You may all be right, it could easily be a cross. I'm trying to remember if Bill63sg's crosses had halos.

Ps...so I went to Bill's Homestead section, his cross was SS and Rose Red. Some definitely had halos.
