Hello everybody I am not sure about this, but I think my alb ss turk I got from Kenny last month is trying to spread his seeds without any eggs! lol I am not familiar with discus breeding and was hoping I can get some help. He has been pecking at the glass all day and has been dragging his underside along the side of the tank for the better part of the afternoon. I included a pic of what I consider his reproductive anatomy.

Definitely sounds like breeding behavior but from the picture appears to me to be female.

Interesting. She needs somebody to pair off with if she can lay the eggs.

Looks female to me,also.lot of time they'll make dry runs while cleaning a site.

She honestly has been at it all day. Wasn't expecting it in the qt tank. If she lays them down, will somebody fertilize them? Or does she need to pair up first?

Usally if someone is pairing with her, you'd be able to tell, they would hang around, possibly help clean the site.Ive had females spawn by themselves.never had someone swoop in and do the job.You mention qt.She alone,or how many in the tank?

Yeah I got a shipment from Kenny 2 weeks ago and there is her with 4 others. The Raff hangs close to her, but I think it's a fluke.

See if the raff chases anyone away.

Okay will do. It's kind of strange in there. The brilliant and checkerboard turq go at it and the raff and carnation turq go at it. Nobody messes with her really. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Definitely agree with Pat and Bill. My female discus has her tube sticking out after each laying (and I have observed and caught her in the act)....Honestly I wasn't peeping....LOL.

Call it scientific study:)

I actually just went down stairs and turned on the light. She has laid eggs! Hope I can get one of the 4 (provided they are males) to fertilize them.
Not sure if my water is parameters are conducive to breeding.

Thought it looked like a female, give her some time to pair off. You should get a hatch rate after she has gets the hang of, it may not be very large but she should get some fry eventually. Hth.

There have been stories,I belive it was fish from Han's,where the female laid eggs in the bag while shipped.Look at it this way,you have a confirmed female.

That's impressive.

Well looks like the residence had a mid morning snack and I am not at all surprised. Hopefully she will pair off with somebody in the future. A little inexperience for her, a lot of the eggs were on the bottom of the tank. There were about a dozen on the side of the tank. Not really looking at breeding at this time anyways.

Okay guys, she is at it again tonight. I went down and she is making dry runs. How often do they lay eggs? It's been 4 days since her first attempt.
