I'm going to be purchasing some additional fish and want to stick with juvies in order to keep down on the cost. Whats the typical time period to properly grow out the juvies before adding them in with my adults? I have a 36 gallon that I'm planning for the grow out tank...bare bottom with a few artificial items for some cover.

Thanks!

im not really sure a 36 gallon will work longterm,I would use at least a55 gallon. As far as growing out it depends on conditions and how big your wanting them to be.I have some about 10 months old and they range from 4 1/2"to 5 1/4"i don't know if that's normal because I see post on here that are just great growout rates.people say the first 4"are the most crucial to the growth of young discus.

Well I'm planning on upgrading my 90g to a 180g so I'm just trying to plan timing and such

If you are buying small fish (2 - 3") plan on investing a year in them. They will continue to grow and thicken up for 18 - 24 months but a year with proper water and food should get you to a good adult size.
