He states you must start out with 10 or more discus or they will pick on the weaker ones. What does the group think?

Everyone has their ideas on what numbers are best for groups of discus... It depends on the size of the fish and size of the tank. One thing that is certain is that discus do better in groups.... 6 plus juvies 2-4 " is my personal min number.. but generally If I have a 55-75 gal I agree with Hans on the numbers here and the reason. I try and stock a 55-75 with 12 juvies 2.5-3" in size..

6 is the minimum for me. The more the better.

how many in a 90 gal? I know it varies, but if they arent super large and minimal "other" companions, is 8 ok?

one discus per 10 gallons of water is a good rule of thumb for adults.

Frylover, if you do enough large water changes you can have more that 9 in a 90 gallon but I do not think I would go to 18-20 adults. See what works for you. 10-11-12 should be no problem.

well i started with 7, but lost 2 so now i have 5 ranging between 4-6 inches. I was hoping to get more though. If i add 4 more as a group, will they be picked on too much being that they will be from a different batch? or if i add as large as i can afford should that be better, so they can stand on their own?
