Hello everyone,
I'm looking for insight from all on a possible tank project. One of my snow plowing accounts is a custom shower installation company. Quite often, somebody orders the wrong piece or a customer cancels or whatever the case may be, extra pieces come back. To the company, they are all garbage, not restocked, and wind up in a dumpster. I have the option if I choose to take these. Since they're for shower enclosures, they are tempered and drilling is not an option. However, there are two panels that have the same dimensions of 66"x24"x3/8". One of the pieces just happens to be frosted.

Now for the questions.
1) Is a 3/8" thickness safe for a 24" height and either an 18" or 24" (front to back) depth ?
2) What does anyone think/feel about using the frosted piece for the rear panel ?
(I think it possibly benefits by hiding the unsightly things, wires etc)
3) Is 3/8" good for a bottom or should I look to purchase a 1/2" piece if it's not readily available ?

As I said, this glass will be coming from a shower installation company, so:
4) Does the glass get cut and drilled (hinges and handle holes) first and then tempered ?

Based on the given dimensions, I'm figuring that I'm looking around roughly 160-190 gallons, depending on the 18" or 24" platform I choose. Sorry but math and I are horrible partners and perhaps a few others could improve on that figure. Of course this isn't something I will be rushing into and will hopefully be well planned on paper a couple times before the finished plans get my (and your) final approval. I haven't started yet but will be looking for somewhere to purchase the bottom and top frame pieces. Being in Connecticut, this is definitely a not too hot or too cold of a day project.

As far as filtration, I'm impartial to Fluval canisters and with the possible "no drilling" factor, I don't know how else to approach that. Any info anyone else can send would be much appreciated. Inside the tank, I really love the large Manzanita pieces a lot of folks have. They are simply killer additions !!!! And then there's the lighting issues. How many can weigh in on led vs. non led ?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to everyone's help and guidance. Both the positive, negative, and the "you're out of your mind" comments as well.

I'll go 1/2" cause 3/8 is so thin . Btw, I'm not sure that piece in first pic is for aquarium. Personal, don't want to risk it with big volume of water.

Found this on net , hope it help

Good luck
