Hello folks,

I currently have a 110 gallon community tank with various tetras and five adult discus (6"). I plan on buying 5 more discus (from the same breeder), but they will start out at 3". So my questions:

1) Would 30 gallon bare bottom tank (no other fish) be OK as a grow out tank?

2) What would be the minimum size for the new fish needed before transferring to the big 110 gallon tank?

Thanks in advanced.

I would say that a 55g would be best to grow out the 5 discus. The minimum size for introduction could be anywhere from 4-6". It depends on how you maintain your main community tank.

Community tank is still discus focused. Even with a handful sword plants and 20 or tetra varieties, I still focus on frequent water changes (35 gallons every 2 or 3 days).
