Hello everyone . I don't post much but I spend countless hours reading and absorbing as much information as I can . I have my first group of successfull fry (so far). I have moved them over to their own tank . They are 3.5 weeks free swimming at this point . They are eating well (everything I put in the tank). I have around 55 fry at this point . Just wanted to post a picture and get SD's opinion . They are around the size of a nickel and very uniform in size and shape . Let me know what everyone thinks . Thanks again for all of the help along the way

Thank you . This is the best picture I have of the parents . Blue diamond (male) and Red Scrib(female ) While we are on the topic anyone have an idea of what the fry will look like when grown ?

Nice pair good luck with your fry, hope you get blues with lines, what is on the bottom of your tank that looks like sand, i like that.

Thank you .

I painted the back of the tank white and the bottom with a product from Krylon called "make it stone " that I picked up at lowes .

Textured spray paint. Rustoleum makes a good one. Cheap too.

It's hard to tell from your pictures, do some of the fry not have the dark bar through the eye? When I had a RT and a BD spawn I got quite a variety of offspring. Everything from BD, to scorpions, to turks. Might have even missed one type, lol.

As far as I can tell they seem to all have the bar to some extent . It's hard to tell though , I haven't even gotten a good count of them yet

That could very well be, different genetic pairing.

I can't wait to see how the develop and change . Genetics is one thing I'm trying to learn more about but it makes my head want to explode .

So I think they are 1 month old today. All the fry seem to be doing well and eating like pigs . The parents were preventevily treated for parisites before breeding . Is there any reason to medicate the fry ? If so at what age ?

No, just change lots of water and wipe down the tank like crazy.

Thank you . From my reading int seems like 3 months is a pretty typical age . I am just a hobbyist breeder . Raising discus is not a planed source of income . What would be a reasonable asking price for my fry ? I know strain and lineage play a major factor. Again not trying to make a boat load (or even break even the way the little guys eat) Just trying to find good homes for them where they will be enjoyed as much as I have enjoyed them .

Quick update , culled my first group today . I am down to around 40 fry now . The rest are growing well and are now about the size of a quarter . These little guys eat FDBW out of my hand and go crazy for Hans's beef mix!

Quick question for every one . Fry are doing well and growing very nicely . I noticed this guy today . Some how I have missed him in my culls . What is up with the black tail ? Should I cull him or let him grow out ?

Looks like nerve damage, but that typically happens on the face, or side of body. Quite unusal.

Nerve damage it is I have an adult BD that happen too she fine stille eats like a pig and happy just not a desirable look. It shouldn't carry over if bred with.
