I have just purchased a TDS meter for my discus tank.Iit is reading 620 micro-siemens.
This seems high to me. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Test your tap water before and after aerating it. If your TDS is that high, you may need RO water to bring it down. Discus can get use to high TDS, but the lower the better. I keep mine at 180/200 range and for breeding, 80/90 range.

Not really sure as I have never had a TDS reading that high. My tap water is between 280/300. But I have heard that some areas have TDS as high as 1000.

Use it. You have good water and the PH is not that drastic.

Are we talking about tds or micro-Siemens? If we are talking about microsiemens than the tds would about half of that, if those are the tds you are still fine my tds is almost 500 my microsiemens almost 1000 and I keep and breed in my tap water. Yes breed in very hard tap water and get good hatch rate. My fish are heathy and happy, your water is fine unless you are trying to keep wilds.

Larry is right, the OP is talking about microsiemens which needs to be "converted" to get to the TDS. Most TDS conversions divide the ms number by 2, so his TDS is around 310.
