It is your tank! What I like does not matter. I do prefer "Browns". Hans has Stendker browns (They can also be red brown): alenquers, santarem and tefes. I think they look more natural than the new color varities. Hans also has brilliant blues and brilliant reds that also look more natural.

red goes well with green plants, just my opinion

What I would I put in it?
San merahs from Kenny and silver pigeons from Hans. IMO cobalts and blue diamonds look sweet in a planted tank as well. As Elliot said it's a personal preference, your tank, you can pick whatever type of discus YOU like.

If it were me I'd put 12 of the same strain. It doesn't matter what it was, but it would be the same strain :-)

Ask 100 people and you'll get 100 different answers. It's purely a matter of opinion. I personally like them all, which makes it kind of tough. If you like different colors and patterns:
Blue diamond: classic solid blue
Turks: Blue/dark red, genetically not far from wilds
Whites and Yellows: if you've got no objections to albinos, these can't be beaten and will never pepper
Reds: Fire red, brilliant red or rafflesia
Spots: leopards or penang eruptions
Thick lined: Pigeons
Thin lined: Snakeskins

Take a look at Kenny's inventories, he's got them all.

I'd go with any adults that are strongly blues... I don't know why but the color blue in planted tanks always seems to pop and say "look at me" Its probably due to the light spectrums, but thats just a guess....anyhow, a bud of mine had some cobalts in a high tech planted tank and they just really looked great.
