Good luck Al. I've always wanted a breeding pair of Fire Reds from Hans, just haven't had the cash to put in the order. I really hope yours do well. The clutch looks very nice, no apparent fungus either!

The 4 reds in my avatar pic is as close as I've come to getting reds. These are the 4 royal ruby reds I won from Tara's auction last summer. I got lucky and there are 2 breeding pairs.

This is what I did the wigglers had started to swim so moved the wigglers to the back of the tank and divided the tank with a 4 inch thick sponge pushing filtered water with air

So are you firing up the bbs hatchery soon? The plus about a batch that size is they get a lot of attention and the odds of having problems with them seems to be a lot smaller.

Allwin

Always a gr8 sight to see the attachment and the swapping of frys between the parents.

Personally, I feel frys from small batches are nutritious and can grow out to real potential imo.

Lol, egg machine.!

Being a small batch, If the fry's start eating BBS, u can move them to give chance for the new clutch of eggs or just scrap the eggs. Else the parents can very well kill the fry's in another 2-4 days.

alcastro
06-16-2014, 02:01 PM
Yes I took the eggs out this morning, they where on tap water already and want to give the fry more time to grow strong.

I should really expand on this comment. Allwin is right, that if a pair spawns again while still parenting a prior batch that are also eating bbs the first batch can be removed. I immediately suggested removing the second batch of eggs based on two things. First, I believe this is the pairs first successful spawn and they still have plenty of parenting skills to learn. Second, and the larger reason, the eggs were laid on the bottom of the tank. It is my understanding the odds of having bacterial problems are much greater in this case.

My thinking exact Keith and tds at 400 bad odds
