I use to use a Nikon coolpix L610. The battery latch broke and I purchased a Sony cybershot. I have found that the available light capabilities is better with the Nikon. I do like the flash photos better with the Sony. It is a larger flash with more even lighting for the tank photos.

I do like the flash better with the Sony.

One thing to keep in mind about P&S cameras is that their White Balance algorithms are poor judges of what the true color spectrum should be.

I have noticed this in many of your photos. In order to rectify this problem, you should manually input your White Balance. One of the reasons it is being thrown off is because of the color of your background.

So, in the menu, simply go to your WB option and change it, and cycle through them to see which one looks more true to life. It will more than likely be some form of florescent setting.

Lastly, the photo without flash (Sony one) was under exposed. You can rectify this, by doing positive exposure compensation.

I hope that helps.

P.S. personally, I think straight on flash photography is something to avoid. If you can not totally avoid it, try using some kind of flash modifier and it should help the "flashed" look.

Out of all of those, I believe the last one may look the closest to a real world setting. You must keep in mind, no matter if a camera can dial in WB perfectly, if you have a broad spectrum of light, sometimes it is very difficult to catch that perfect white balance. Let's see some more shots with that last WB and take it from there.
