Since everyone here has been so helpful, I wanted to share that I finally got my Discus! I couldn't make up my mind on just 1 color so I got all different ones. And true to my word I got the 4-5 inch ones (since I know nothing about growing them out, but seems to be very close to growing out Koi which I do know about). They are absolutely beautiful and doing well. Not hiding but they are staying in a group together. However, they will swim around the tank from 1 end to the other & up and down. They won't eat flakes from the top yet but are feeding well once they sink.

I am so pleased and happy :) I have kept an eye daily on my water & everything thus far is checking OK.

I will admit that I'm not very good at putting pics on forums. And I don't have any saved to this computer (because it isn't mine). As soon as I figure it out I will post 1 since I have some in my phone :)

You made a good choice going with Hans.
Don't worry about them sticking together. Until they reach breeding age they are schooling fish. If they're swimming up and down and from side to side they are happy.

How many fish did you buy and what size tank do you have them in? What strains did you buy?

Snow, don't feel bad about not being able to post pics. Something is wrong with the old but fancy Nikon I own. I can't post pics either.

A 75 is more than enough for them. I see an Alanquer in the group.

I was listing them according to the invoice. The light in the tank makes some of them (mostly the blues) tones down a bit. If I have the light off and just look at them in natural daylight (not direct sunlight) the colors are amazing!

Thanks for being so kind and liking the ones I picked out. Well, Hans picked I just told him which strains. LOL He even called me later in the day to make sure everyone was doing fine.

The "goldeny" one is the Marlboro Red. Right now the outer rims are red & the center is a lighter melon color. But I'm assuming as he/she ages it will turn more red.

really pretty anyway ! are you enjoying them or is it more work than you thought? LOL im sure your having a blast, i do think i remember being a bit overwhelmed at first by all the feedings and water changes and tank scrubbing but i settled in quickly and couldnt be without them now :)

I am actually enjoying them. The water changes are not that consuming as I already do 3 other tanks already. They are not this size of course but I still have to take care of them. I'm not overwhelmed but I do find myself worrying a lot over them. They all look great but one never knows when something could go wrong on the turn of a dime. Since they are larger fish the feeding & water changes are not the same as for the smaller juveniles.

At this point I am looking forward to getting more tanks of discus......but i need to get used to these first & find more space for tanks :)

Not an alenquer. I think that is the red scribbled you are seeing Liz. Can't see the whole fish but if you look you can see pattern on the body.

VERY nice Snow. Hans sent you some beautiful discus.
