I use it from time to time to match stored water to the tank's pH. I use it with the companion product Neutral Regulator to get the right pH value. I only add it when I have to do a particularly large water change, one that would raise the tank pH by a half point or more.

I think when it's used with Neutral Regulator, it adds phosphates, which can cause problems in a planted tank. Mine is not a planted tank, so it's not an issue. Other than that, I don't think there's much downside when used probably.

I really don't see the need for this product in most cases. How high is the ph of your tap water?

In my opinion there is seldom a need for it. What discus need is clean water at 82 degrees.

ime there is no need for any discus buffer type stuff. If your water is so bad it needs adjusting then ro is the way to go. Not to be a stuck record but all discus need is clean, warm water, and 82f (28c) is fine :)

As John and Paul said no need. I make my own remineralizer as I am on 100% rain water but that is all.

so whats the best ph range for discus? thank you all! They tolerate a very wide range. They are amongst the most adaptable of fish I think. I've kept mine from very low (under 5) to quite high (over 8) without significant issue. As long as the water is clean they will be happy enough.
