Hello all
This is my first post. Currently i m raising some juv discus. Once they grow i will rescape my tank . For hardscape i want to use attached rocks. Recently i read that rocks like limestones will impact ph and kh which is bad for discus . Can anybody please confirm the attached rocks r ok for discus tank . My tank is 36" 24" 20" LWH.https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152170248581196&set=gm.498259826944296&type=1

I agree completely. Don't use real rocks ~ hard rocks and glass are not a good combination. When looking at universal, make sure to get the rocks for aquariums and not for reptiles, they're different.

For aquariums, they embed small pebbles in the resin to weigh down the rock, otherwise they float. They are usually more expensive.

Ahh ok thats good to know. Rownok some types if rocks if boiled can be placed in aquariums how ever rocks higher the ph which could be harmful to your young discus. I heard limestone sand stone soap stone ect slowly breaks apart when in the water. Idk if its true but personly i wouldn't risk it.
And welcome ti the forums

Fwiw, I use real rocks in my planted aquariums, but I soak them for a week and do a before/after water test prior to using them. In a glass tank, I put them on egg crate instead of directly on the glass, and then add substrate. Most of the rocks I find have little to no effect on the water, but I have found a few that I decided to return to the wild because of pH swings upon testing. The fake rocks are a sure thing, but I'm a cheapskate, and real ones plucked from nature are free!

Welcome to the forum, Rownok - enjoy your time here and best of luck with your discus project.

I haven't any experience with placing rocks in a discus tank, because I'm leery about any undesirable elements that some rocks may eventually leach into the water, not to mention the potential hazard of discus harming themselves through inadvertent 'encounters' with them. If I ever did use them, I'm quite sure it would only be non-sharp-edged fake rocks made of harmless material. But that's just me.

Just checked out the Universal Rocks web site. Pretty cool stuff.
