At what point is it time to move the babies away from mom & dad?

They have been doing well, but there are 35 babies plus mom & dad and even with doing heavy water changes daily, they are trashing the water. I know that I'll have to separate them sometime, but I don't want to do it too soon. They are probably right at a month old.

Suggestions?

What size tank are they in?
How long have they been with the pair?

They are in a 29 (the mom is yours). They have all been together for a month. The Dad gets incredibly grumpy when anyone gets near the tank.

That's long enough as long as they are eating and you changing water. You can remove the parents they will be fine just remember to change lots of water and keep moving them to larger tanks or separate as they grow.....Josie

P.S. I love to hear when my discus spawn :):):):) it shows the great care you are providing

If i put the parents back in my show tank, will they stay a pair or is it like starting over?

I have seen it both ways some will stay together and some will find a new mate. Or they could go back in the show tank and start bullying others it's hard to say.........Josie
