First BD looks nice, the rest is a little bit behind in my personal opinion.

But please tell us more about them, your tank, your routine and so.

I think they all look great!
Especially the blue diamond. If it had redder eyes(which is rare nowadays) it would have great potential!

Lol it's nice to get a second opinion, or several sometimes. I decided to get more active on here and AC. Nice to hear from you man.

But please tell us more about them, your tank, your routine and so.

Thanks for your opinion and I agree with your assessment. I wish I could have gotten more like the first BD but wasn't possible at the time. They're in a fully cycled 65 Gallon grow out(48x18x18) along with some juvie albino bristle nose plecos I breed myself. Water change schedule is 60-70% daily or every other day at the least. They're feed a combination of new life spectrum, cobalt aquatics discus hand flakes, hikari gold discus pellets, Al's FDBW, and they're trained on AngelsPlus Immune booster flake.

I actually had more than these until recently. I didn't QT because they were from the same supplier. I know it's a big no but I took a chance because I had no other tanks available at the time. First day was fine then I noticed my red turq, #4 in the picture in the corner all alone fully stressed out. I attributed this to now being introduced and went about my business. The following day I noticed fin rot on 2 of my 3 new BDs and on the red turq. I also had two brown snakeskins which I've kept since late June and they seemed to have gotten it also.

Basically what happened next was pure bad luck, I began treatment with fungus guard as that's the only thing I could have gotten that day and added aquarium salt. I keep my tank at 86F so I left it at that. Then the power outage came, after I started the treatment. Worse yet I wasn't home when the power went. To make a long story short I ended up losing my two big brown snakeskins and two BDs to a horrible case of swim bladder disease which I attributed to a bad reaction to the meds. I did my best to rectify, lowered the water to 1/4 , added salt. But it just kept getting worse and I was forced to cull.

Never again, sometimes you just have to learn the hard way. Here were my brown snakeskins. They had put on an inch easily since I bought them in late June.

Thanks farebox and I'm glad I gave you the discus fever Judi, you truly have some beautiful fish.

Finally started hand feeding today. They're being fed Al's FDBW and I dropped a little seachem garlic guard on it and that did the trick.

Please excuse the glare, enjoy!

Good luck with these. Like the man said, it's a hobby and we're supposed to enjoy it. Sorry to hear about the loss. I remember breaking quarantine too early once, actually twice, should have known better, and wiped out EVERYTHING in my 90 gal., fish I loved. Both times from wild fish that transmitted some mystery illness that seemed to kill about 10 different dish from 10 different things. Live and learn.

Yeah man thanks, that's life eh, you win some and you lose some.

Guys I noticed some weird behavior, i wouldn't classify it as a disease per say so I didn't fill out the questionnaire but I'll do my best to describe it.

Sometimes I notice a couple of my discus, mainly the red turq and lower BD to swim up close to the top of the water and do a sort of splash motion with their bodies then dive back down, any idea what this could be?

First thought I had led towards electrical but everything checks out fine, no cracks in the heater, it's coming on when needed shutting off etc. and there's no other electrical in the tank besides the additional powerhead which is currently unplugged.

ericNH
08-24-2014, 04:17 PM
The earlier discus I acquired did that too, and then eventually stopped doing that. The later ones I got did not. I don't know what caused it, but I do know that they weren't happy at the time.

I feed 3-4 times daily and I also do water changes daily so I doubt it either of those reasons. I suspect they're trying to catch the mosquitos that infest the area my tank is in.

Something about this pic I just like, despite the blurriness.

Recently moved my tank due to some renovations. My fish were obviously stressed and I noticed some darting this morning.

Saw some scuffs on my big blue diamond, should I be worried or will it heal? I'm not sure what to do and any help would be appreciated.

I'll leave diagnosis and suggestion on the scuffs to the veterans.

Regarding the pic from the water's surface, it is an excellent photo. Reminds me of summer. Swimming pools. But with fish!

Regarding the splashing thing, my Blue discus has started doing that again, coming to the top and flipping me off with a tail-splash haha. But he does it now only when I'm feeding, I think he's trying to whack the food out of my fingers :)

Same daily WCs will help heal the scuffs.

You are welcome. Another suggestion if you do not mind, try dimming the lights a bit and see if that makes the fish more brave.

That seemed to do the trick. I also changed the light out from a marineland doublebright to a finnex monster Ray.

They're a total of 6 discus in the tank right now and all seem to be growing fairly well. I saw one of my blue diamonds shaking but I'm not sure who exactly she's going to pair up with it. I'm just guessing it's a female due to overall shape.

Guys I noticed a big problem today, one of my blue diamonds and my royal ruby red seem to be relentlessly attacking my Galaxy. I found the galaxy close to the surface practically on its side and with some pretty bad bite marks on its side. What should I do ?? I did a huge water change and added a dosage of seachem stress guard.

Hey guys they're 6 in the tank

As far as I can see they aren't a pair and they're not bothering any other fish Judi.

judijetson
10-06-2014, 06:29 PM
My one pair did something very similar with a Penang I had, they would pin it in the top corner of the tank to where the penang was on its side. Needless to say it was very stressful for the penang, I didn't act quickly enough, the fish stopped eating and by the time I separated it into a qt it was too late for it to recover. Eggcrate is now my favorite accessory to separate fish in the tank when necessary.

If the fish isn't showing any signs of stress, lots of clean water will help it heal.

Well that pair I would break up as one is a PB and the other isn't. As for the turq, I would keep changing water 50% daily, but I'm not sure if that might help. Can't you get another 20 gal and place the stressed fish in there?
