Is there a significant difference in nutrients between frozen foods and freeze dried foods? I have no discus now but will be adding some in about a months time. I sure would rather feed freeze dried bloodworms and brine shrimp than frozen stuff. Seems easier and less "stinky" lol.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% sure but freeze dried process only remove moisture (water), which is good because instead of buying a pound of mostly water, you can buy a pound of mostly proteins and other stuffs. Freeze Dried = higher concentration of proteins and less water.

Look under the food and nutrition section, you'll find all you need to know. It seems the frozen vs freeze dried gets hashed out weekly.

If you buy frozen you're paying for water. Order freeze dried black worms from al

I have quit using frozen completely because you are paying more for less and it is nutritionally no better.

Feed the FDBW as the first meal of the day......IMO most fish are hungry in the morning.

Francis made a good suggestion for picky eaters.

Also if you want there was a recent discussion here on Simply that broke down the positive and negatives of different foods and nutritional value.

I would modify my comment to allow for home made beef heart mix and the like. Those are excellent foods if done right, economical, and are best kept frozen until fed.

The freeze dried is generally higher in protein and more economical, especially if feeding more than a few fish. I agree with OC re beef heart as one of the exceptions.

I still feed frozen bloodworms from time to time but mostly for variety and out of habit. It can also get freezer burn if kept for longer periods of time.

I just made a new batch of frozen using some very lean top round. After trimming and processing, I have about a month's worth of food for my 125 gal tank. Cost of the meat: $2.14. Cost of the flake I added - insignificant. This is a very economical way of feeding your fish some good food.
