Hi,
I have had a linear air pump for about 6 years running continuous. I started to have the inlet pipe on my sponge filters plugging up with brown goo.
I wasn't sure what the problem was, but the air pump was not pumping as much volume and was warmer than normal. I disassembled the air pump and the Teflon coating around the piston was worn down significantly. So I ordered a Piston rebuild kit here http://septicsolutions.com/SepticAirPumpRepairParts/MedoPistonRepairParts.html and replaced the piston and gaskets. A very easy job. They have a Blower Maintenance Manual Download right there on that page. That manual is for the next size up pump that has 2 pistons, but the procedure is basically the same for the repairs.

Maybe this will help someone else here in the future.:) A picture is attached of my air pump. I bought it from Jehmco years ago and has been a good pump.
