View Full Version : Discus have started spawning
I got 7 discus from Hans back in January and 2 of them have paired up and have spawned a couple of times. One is a Pigeon Blood snakeskin and the other is a Dark Angel. Should I discourage this pair? I am assuming the fry would be pretty ugly. Any help is appreciated!

I would advise against it.

Absolutely! You should pull them aside and scold them, preaching all the virtues of abstinence!
How about some details? I barely know much about discus genetics, but what could I expect? I think they are both PBS based. Wouldn't I get some red pigeon blood, some similar to dark angels, and maybe a couple of strange mutations?

Honestly, your not going to get anything but a tasty snack for the tankmates if they have wigglers in a community tank.....

you won't get any mutations, mutations are rare. Most of your fish fry would wind up like this:

I have another tank for breeding. My question was about what type offspring I would expect.

What were the parents of that fish? I'm just curious.
Weird how genetics work sometimes. My fish look awesome even though some people told me they wouldn't and advised me against it.

Looks like you are doing a good job with them but it is a little early to know how they will look when grown.
Good luck.
