So a few months ago I went to my LFS and bought (4) Discus $25 a piece.

Anyways under there for sale label, they were labeled as, "Small Assorted Discus."

Anyone got input on why they would label them as such. They were like 1.5-2" when I got them. They're like 2.5-3" now

It's a nice way of saying the LFS does not know what strains the discus are.

Sometimes when discus are that young it's difficult to say what strain they are.

:bandana: Figure the seller has no source reference so generically, 'assorted' is as accurate as can be. "T"

A lot of pet stores by discus very cheap from wholesalers. These discus are usually throwbacks, mutts, B and C grade fish, etc. They are all thrown together and sold for a cheap price as "assorted discus." You see the same things with assorted angelfish, assorted African cichlids, etc. They could be any strain, really. You'd need to show us the individual discus for us to guess at what they are. Usually when I see assorted discus at shops they are a mix of low-quality pigeon bloods, red turquoise, blue diamonds, cobalts, turquoise, and snakeskins... aka, common stuff.
