Hi guys i know it's not a discus, but in my discus tank one of my german Blue rams looks like it's had its throat ripped off. Anyone have any ideas? Is this possibly hole in the head but in the throat?

I can't get picture added but here is a link

He was fine yesterday but today is in a very poor state.

Cheers Steve

About the only thing I can see in that pic is his mouth, perhaps try again?

Trying to get a picture was near impossible.

That's the best i could get sadly.

The part im referring to is on the underside below the gills.
It basically looks like a ulcer, or If you can imagine something has bitten a chunk out the fish.

I've removed him at the moment and placed him in a hospital tank with interpet no 9

You are between a rock and a hard place here. Rams generally don't tolerate meds overly well, also if it is an open wound interpet #9 isn't the best choice as it contains formalin. Not really sure what I would do tbh, I'd rarely if ever specifically treat a ram.

Hi like you said and tbh like i suspected it died the next day.

It looked like something had bitten a chunk out of it, but I'm guessing it was a ulcer.

It's just strange as everything else including my discus is fine.

I may have disturbed some crap from the bottom of the tank or introduced something when i put a new plant in the tank the day before.

Never mind is all i can say.

I'm getting a new 6x2x2 tomorrow so i can't wait.

For future reference don't use any product with formalin in with open wounds, it is toxic. Acriflavin is much better in these circumstances, not sure if it would have helped or not in this case.

Cheers. He was in a poor state when i took him out.

I chose interpet no 9 as it said for ulcers and bacterial infections. Annoying as i have acriflavin in my medicine cabinet as well l meant 4x2x2 not 6x2x2.
