Hi guys,

I am having a weird issue with my ater's Ph.

At the moment, I am setting up a small 50 liters tank that I will use to treat some Angelfish for tapeworms
before I put them into my 240 liters tank, which is still empty.

Two days ago I filled up the empty tank with water from the tap, turn on the heater and an internal filter with
a sponge and let it there. At the time I filled up the tank, I measured the Ph and it was about 7.2.

This morning I measured the Ph in the tank and it went up to 8.5.

The tester I am using is the ELOS AquaTest Freshwater pH Test Kit.

From what I have read, the Discus would be fine in such a high Ph, however, I am planning to keep also a shoal of
neon tetras and some angels, and I am not sure the neon tetras would do fine.

What are your thoughts?

Cheers,
Fabio

You have driven off the dissolved gases. Probably CO2 which is an acid.

Thanks John,

Would you say it is best to try to adjust or leave it as it is?

Do you think neon tetras and angels would be ok in this water?

Also, my city's water authority says the values below are the water parameters on my area:

Ph
7,3 - 7,5

Gh
°dH 19,1 - 20,2
mol/m³ 3,4 - 3,6

Kh
°dH 14,6 - 14,9
mol/m³ 2,6 - 2,7

Is °dH or mol/m³ the common measure?

If your water swings that much you should aerate it and heat it for 24 hours before using it for a large water change. You should not worry about the rest of the stuff as long as it is stable and you keep it clean.
