Hi there, I have just taken delivery of 4 Forrest Discus for my 48x20x18 tank. It also has 14 Cardinals and 2 Bristlenose.

Hoping to learn some stuff and pinch some good ideas.

Thanks in advance for your help.

After 3 weeks of getting along fine, the larger 2 of the 4 have decided that today is biffo day. I come home to find them constantly fighting/chasing each other and they both have split fins and marks on their body. Is this something that will go away quickly or should I separate them asap?

Jim, you're seeing a natural progression of the pecking order establishment, which can at times be more serious than it should be when keeping just 2, 3, or 4 discus.
Add a couple more discus to dissipate the aggressive behavior, and make it more acceptable. Don't neglect to QT if you do that.
All the best.

I've now removed the air diffusers added some river stones to the tank. I need to get the blackbeard under control too...

Nice tank! I have just added my second discus to my 20 g long. They seem to get along fine most of the time except right after feeding. I usually cut the lights out and they chill out.

Yes it is looking very nice. How's the pecking order 'pushing & shoving' working out ?

All sorted, they now have the odd nip at each other but that's about it.
