View Full Version : Heckel Cross Third Generation Begins

It has been a while since I posted any progress on the Heckel crosses I have been developing. I just got back from a week long trip and was pleasantly surprised to see wigglers with a pair of fineline snakes from my earlier breeding. The parents are F2's from the original Wild Heckel I crossed with a Penang Eruption back in 2011. As I mentioned I have been gone so the condition of the tank is not the best but the photos show a nice batch of wigglers. The 9 bar variety from this cross seem to through larger batches. The first photo was from last night. The parents were just starting to move the fry from the air stem to the cone. Never fails they have a nice cone and chose the air stem to spawn on.

Nice.

A snake X snake will seldom produce spawns as large. Experience has taught me that the double snake gene combination is usually a lethal combination.

The parents might be from one of the pairs you picked up in Dallas. I hope that since these two came from a 9 Bar Heckel F1 and a F1 Fineline Heckel cross that some will survive since they may have 9 Bar resessive gene. Time will tell. Fun to see the mix of varieties they produce. Might be some 9 Bars for all I know. Maybe a Rick question.

You should get roughly 66% snakes and 34% 9 barred fish.
