bad idea adding 3 discus with established group of 4?

hey guys i have 4 discus now in a 65 gallon tank. I want to add 3 more . Is that a bad idea? would adding 2 more be better? they are currently 3-4 inches. thanks for any insight

It should work with 3. Quarantine first though.

Are you just working on a display tank or are you growing out for breeding? This would help you to determine if you want to have a variety of discus or a tank full of pigeon based strains or non-pigeon base. If your long term goal is to breed, then try keeping either pigeons or non-pigeons. Mixing them for breeding is not a good idea.

QT for about 5 weeks first to make sure both groups are equally healthy

then take your least favorite fish, the hero fish! and add it into the new group, check for a week to make sure nothing comes up, then you should be safe!


Jeff gave good advice there too about breeding, i was going on the numbers side of things
