I have a pair that are laying eggs again, and I just noticed that one of them has a thin black hair like thing sticking out of his/her breeding tube. Is this normal? Is this indicative of sex?

Thank you!

I checked this morning and the hair thing is around 2 inches long already. I'm thinking it's an actual human hair strand that he/she ate and currently excreting out, with the egg laying as a timing coincidence.

What do you folks think?

Well, it is bizarre. If you can capture it when it finally expells, you could check it out under a microscope, and pull one of your own hairs for comparison!

It does look like an actual human hair from the photos. Well let's hope that it comes out and you can find it when it does so it doesn't happen again. Rufus

The hair is several inches long now, longer than his/her ventral fins. Hopefully that's my hair (short), and not my wife's LOL!

Sorry if this is a dumb anatomy question - is the breeding tube / ovipositor(?) the same orifice used for excreting poop out? I ask because he/she was pooping earlier, and it seemed to be coming out of the same hole the hair was sticking out of.

Thanks!

Hair is gone now, so I think it's a safe assumption he/she just ate a strand of my hair LOL!
