Hi,
" Rock salt" or "Kosher salt" is often recommended. because it's pure salt.
The iodized salt contains also Anticaking agent. some of them like e536 or e331 can be problematic. though no evidence of any harm is known to me.

may i ask for what purpuse do you add salt?

just found nice article about salt by known vet.
says how to treat and for what parasits.
he says:
What's the "scoop" on iodized salt; is it toxic or not?
Not toxic to fish. Very likely, the first few times it was used with smaller filtration systems in higher amounts, it set the filter back causing an ammonia situation to arise. It was theorized that the bacterial stumble was caused by the iodine/betadine effect.

i recommend to read it all, very informative

Thanks all, going back a couple of months I lost 5 out of 8 discus that I raised from babies because I got parasites in my 2 tanks and still don't know how that happened because I'm careful.
Went to a LFS that sold discus and salt water fish, because I thought he was an expert. Explained the problem to him and he said he knew what my problem was and to put his product in for three days.
fought this problem for the three days and still loosing fish.
In desperation I called my importer who told me to put 1/2 cup of sea salt for each 10 gals and leave it for 3 days. I thought he was nuts but he said if I wanted to save the rest of my fish trust him which I did because I had nothing to loose, it worked so well I kept the fish in that salt for 4 days to get rid of the problem.
I also use it now and then when the fish rub against objects in the tank to stop the itch ( 1 tablespoon per gallon ) it works.
Good to know I can use iodized if I have to.

Thanks for sharing,
I also have very good experience with salt.

Recommended to use it only when really necessary:
"Years ago salt was the parasite treatment of choice for treating microscopic parasites such as Chilodinella, Costia, ich, Trichodina and others. However, because of the overuse of salt, there are now many salt resistant parasites"

Sometimes frys inherit salt or other meds resistant parazites from their parents, and you see resistant with fish that never got treated. My parazites respond well to salt (well from my view = dead), glad to hear yours to.

Wish you success
